please, for the love of all that is holy, do NOT go with a last name from a Sesame Street character.
Apparently, there is a playmate with the last name Grover. You learn something new every day. Unfortunately, sometimes you learn these new things via Google images when your children are in the room with you.

Thank you, Sir, may I have another?
It just doesn't stop.
TheBoy was in fine form this morning. He's in this, "Mama do it," stage where he wants help from no one but me. That kind of sucks when I need to get stuff done. I asked the girls to help him and he threw a fit. When I tried to get him dressed, he hit me. Oh hell no! Completely unacceptable. He went into timeout and never stopped screaming.
After the gym, I was feeling much better. The kids, however, took a break from the bitchiness just long enough to stay at the nursery there, but then kicked back into brat-mode when I picked them up.
Long story, but we got back here only to find we needed to leave again. I was planning on staying in the rest of the day just catching up with the kids and giving the youngest of the brood a nap he obviously so desperately needs. Now I find we'll need to leave in order for everything to get done.
So I make plans with a friend, but when I tell the big kids where we're going, it's met with whining and complaining. "I doooooooooon't waaaaaaaaaaaaant to go there. Why can't we go to the poooooooooool?" Holy shit! Who are these kids because they're sure as hell not behaving like mine. My mantra is, "We don't get what we want when we whine." I'm pretty strict about that. So WTF is going on?
So I have to call to cancel which initiates this hugely dramatic scream-fest from Girl1. Dude, it's your fucking fault.
Let's not forget that our presence here means that things can't get done. That was the whole reason I even considered getting the hell out of dodge in the first place.
And the "fun" continues.
TheBoy scraches Girl2 in the face with sunglasses which initiates launch sequence for sobs.
Now the girls are trying to play with a game and TheBoy is objecting (loudly).
Holy shit! I need a fucking break and a drink. Send alcohol--copious amounts of alcohol, QUICKLY. Pleeeeeeaaaaaaaaase. Pretty pretty pleeeeeaaaaaaase.

On moms and blogging
I found these blog entry through Ima on (and off) the bima and I thought they were very interesting.
Wonder Woman Is Just A Chick In Tights
She has a fabulous point for everyone, not just women and certainly not just moms.
Although, I disagree with her title. I can throw on a pair of tights, but that will not give me super powers nor will it give me that super cool yet oh so stupid invisible plane.
You Know Your Wife's A Blogger When...
We should all work together to come up with the "You know your mom's a blogger when..." list.

Sharing Time:
Victory in the mommy wars
There's been so much talk over the past few years about the "Mommy wars"--mothers judging one another. I propose we mount a counter-attack. Forget making that tongue-snapping noise of annoyance at other moms. Let's compliment them.
Don't look for the bad to complain about. Look for the good to praise.
I challenge you all to speak up and tell parents when you notice their kids doing something nice. Leave me a comment and tell me about the situation. Feel free to post the challenge on your blog with a link here. I want to hear lots of happy stories.
My sister and I have made a point of trying to do this for a year or two now. First off, when I read the first article about "Mommy wars," I wrote to a mom I've always admired and told her so. Then, when my sister and I went to the zoo and a little boy (maybe 6 or so) held the door for us, my sister ran over to tell his parents what he had done and to thank them. The boy was beaming and so were his parents. Another time, I noticed a girl of about 8 helping my kids in the playground. I went over to her family and asked, "Is that your daughter?" They admitted she was and I could just see they were bracing themselves for bad news. I explained how I saw her help my kids and how much we appreciated it. Once again, the family was very obviously thrilled. I heard them call her over and start to relay the conversation to her as we left.
So now, go forth and declare victory in the mommy wars. Screw this petty bickering. Keep your eyes open for kids doing something positive and make a point of letting the parents know that you appreciate it. Then come back here and tell me about it.

"So you are a super star.
Get off the cross we need the wood."
I should have been furious, but I was just in complete disbelief. My mother is going to be the death of me. My 70-year-old mother threw a temper tantrum while I waited to take my daughter to urgent care.
Girl2 was sick. She threw up every 10 minutes. I couldn't get her to keep anything at all down. Even the electrolyte ice pops immediately came back up. She vomited bile. She was obviously getting dehydrated and she was lethargic. I was trying to take care of her while waiting for the doctor's office to open.
My parents were here at the time. My mother started ranting about her neighbor's granddaughter. Mom insisted the girl (who is about 3) should be in pre-school. I forget what I said exactly, but I made some comment about how the family obviously feels she's better with family (she stays with her grandmother during the day). Mom then complained about how the kid never listens to her grandmother. I managed to get mom far enough off the pre-school topic by discussing that family and reminiscing about them (they have lived near my parents for decades. I went to school with the little girl's mother).
Then mom has to throw all my efforts out the window by once again, out of nowhere, announcing, "Kids need to be in pre-school." I asked, "So when did your opinion change? My kids have never been in school. You've never had a problem with that." My mother blew up. She threw her hands up and announced, "I never knew I was such a fucking idiot." Mind you, my mother NEVER drops the F-bomb, so this was a big deal. She flipped out and stormed into the other room where she bitched about it loudly to my father.
I sat there, my sick daughter's head in my lap, in utter disbelief. WTF? My husband's away. I'm trying to take care of a vomiting dehydrated kid and you're not only insulting my parenting (which is strange because she also complains about how dh's cousin and his wife went back to work leaving their son in daycare), but then she hops on the drama llama and rides off leaving a cloud of hugely dramatic dust in her wake.
I ignored her, continued to run back and forth with Girl2 to the bathroom a few more times, then called the doctor. They sent me to urgent care. I took my daughter and left without saying anything to mom. I explained to my dad that I was leaving coffee, filters and cups out for them in case they wanted coffee. I hoped the gesture would help soothe the savage beast. I was not, however, going to give my mother another opportunity to throw a tantrum.
Granted, my mother has done this before with little to no provocation. I shouldn't be surprised, but this was a whole new low.
JSYK, Girl2 is feeling better. We spent 2 hours trying to get a urine specimen. No luck (the kid was dehydrated. Obviously we're not gonna get one). They wouldn't let us leave without one, though. So they gave her a huge glass of water which I had her sip slowly, but she still threw the whole thing up all over the place. The doctor threatened a catheter. I was not pleased. The nurse and I tried a few more tricks. Finally, after 10-12 bathroom trips, a trip to the water fountain, a humongous glass of water, turning the sink on while she sat on the toilet, putting her hand in warm water, and putting a warm washcloth on the girly parts; we got a sample. I'm so glad because we used up all our options. That catheter was the very next step. She has a UTI for which we got antibiotics, but we have no clue what caused the vomiting and swollen tonsils (those suckers are HUGE). We need to follow up with our doctor next week.
Hopefully, by then, her infection (and mom's drama llama) will be gone.

People piss me off.
Actually, lately, everything pisses me off.
My sister called and asked how I was doing. I think I summed it up nicely when I said, "I'm tired. I'm bored. I'm pissed at the world."
I can feel myself getting depressed.
I'm so mad that someone can just outright lie like that woman who caused the accident is doing. I'm hoping that she's just mistaken (we've realized that depending on how she worded things, she may not be lying, but would still be at fault). I'm so pissed that this may go on my record and my insurance rates may go up all because she failed to yield when she was supposed to. I'm trying to assume good intent and I'm thinking maybe she's mistaken, but I need to know exactly what she said to find out if she's outright lying or if she's admitting fault, but doesn't realize it.
Unfortunately, I have to wait on my new insurance claims rep to get back to me so I can find out exactly how she worded it (the difference between "green arrow" and "green light" changes the fault to hers). So I've been dying to find out this whole weekend, but we've had to wait. Dh tried calling to get the police report, but records won't open again until Monday.
I'm just pissed off at and disappointed with humanity in general right now. How could people not only act in a dangerous manner, but then lie about it? I know it sounds naive, but I'm shaken by it. I'm also feeling very "Why me" about the whole thing. I try to be a good person. I try to take responsibility for my actions. So why am I being saddled with this now?
On top of this, the military has stopped dh's pay and stopped paying our insurance. Dh is still active duty military. He will be for a while. We have no clue why they're doing this, so he's going to have to fight with the Finance office tomorrow. This is the military and nothing in the military is ever easy, so I'm sure he's going to have to jump through a ton of hoops before he gets any answers much less anything taken care of. Luckily, we have a nice savings, but our dental insurance is effectively gone and we all needed cleanings plus I had lots of work I wanted done before dh got out (yes, I'm one of the few folks my age who is still the not-so-proud owner of wisdom teeth that need to come out).
Add to all this the sleep study I had on Friday night. I didn't like the place. It was really nice, but they're not really there to analyze your sleep. They're there to prove you have sleep apnea. The mentality wasn't, "Let's see if you have sleep apnea," it was, "You have sleep apnea and we'll prove it. When we do, you'll get your CPAP machine from the XYZ company who supplies us with every single bit of information you see here." Problem is, I don't have sleep apnea. My doctor thought I might, but I knew I didn't. I agreed to the study because I want to find out what on earth is wrong with me. But this place doesn't seem to be about finding answers unless the answer is sleep apnea.
At one point, the tech explained how after they get enough apnea readings, usually after 2 hours, they'll come in and hook me up to the CPAP machine for another 5 hours. I told him, "Then I won't see you again. I'm pretty sure I don't have sleep apnea." He looked at me like I was crazy and asked, "Then why are you here?" Pardon me while I sigh.
I had all the electrodes stuck to me. I got very little sleep from which I woke often. And I was proven right. Aside from when one of the electrodes came off and the tech had to come in to fix that, I never saw him again. When he gave me the survey in the morning, he had crossed off the entire section about the CPAP.
Oh and Pesach (Passover) starts tomorrow. That means LOTS AND LOTS of cleaning. I'm not up for it. I'm so freaking tired right now. I just don't care.
So let's recap: I'm gaining weight, I'm tired, and I have nothing remotely resembling patience. We assume this is all because of my insomnia. Yet we still don't know what the hell is causing it and how to deal with it. Until we do, I will continue to be fat, exhausted and the world's worst mother. We have no income and no insurance and we don't know why. I was in an accident for which the responsible party is refusing to accept responsibility. That means that unless she wises up or the insurance company is actually willing to investigate (which I've been assured they most-likely will NOT do), I'm out the $500 deductible, I'll have this on my driving record and my insurance rates will go up. Oh and I need to clean my whole freaking house top to bottom and sort and remove lots and lots of food--foods that are staples of our diet.
Pardon my language, but there's no other way to put this: This fucking sucks!

This may be one of the strangest statements in the world.
Tomorrow, I'm going for a sleep study and I couldn't be more excited about it.
About 20 years ago, a doctor suggested to my mom that I should have a sleep study. My mother, the queen of the hypochondriacs when it comes to her kids (my oldest brother almost died as a baby and as a result, she was hyper-sensitive to the rest of us, especially me, the baby), refused to take me. She always refused that follow-up stuff which just baffles me. To be completely honest, when we were fighting my insurance company for this study (they initially refused it), I felt awfully bitter towards my mom. If she had just taken me in for that sleep study years ago, maybe I wouldn't have suffered all these years since.
Yesterday, I had one hell of an episode. I just wanted to sleep--needed it and Girl1 threw a fit. I completely lost control. It was fucking frightening. Then I really couldn't sleep last night because I felt so freaking guilty. I went in and laid down with the girls in their bed for a while. I don't know that I've ever felt that guilty and honestly, I deserve to feel that way.
When I get at least a decent amount of sleep, I don't feel like that. I don't behave like that. But this fucking insomnia is kicking my butt.
Dh leaves for training in a week. The thought of being here alone with the kids and no sleep scared me. I hate the person I become when I'm exhausted. I have no patience at all and I lash out. My kids don't deserve that.
So when they called today to tell me they got the green light from my insurance company AND they could get me in tomorrow, I damn near did a little dance. I'm so excited to finally get some answers and a real course of action. Drugs haven't worked for me. Herbs haven't worked for me. Behavior and environmental changes haven't helped. I really am very excited to see what the results will be. I'm gonna finally get some sort of answers. YAY!
